Lower Sacramento River = HOGVILLE

Great evening on the water hooking big fish on the Lower Sac River in Redding, CA

Hat Creek Brown

The Salmon Flies are gone but the yellow stones are filling the void. Landed this nice brown on Hat Creek.

March Madness on the Lower Sacramento River

The BIG UGLY

Fly Fishing on the Lower Sacramento River during "March Madness"

The spring caddis hatch is in full-swing.  Flows are still low 3,300 out of Keswick and a lot of nice fish are being landed.  After a video shoot on the river promoting my other business www.riverpropertytours.com I spent a couple of hours on the river with a buddy.  He landed this nice rainbow on the Lower Sacramento River using a tan poopah. If that’s a secret then so is the idea of having your flies down (in the water) when you fish :)

Springtime Caddis Hatch on the Lower Sac

Had a good outing with my client on the Lower Sac on Saturday.  The Caddis Hatch was thick from 11-3pm.  The water color was very green about 3 ft. of visibility.  We landed 5 fish.  And had 1 broken oar :(

The hybrid oar fix made the fish pic for the day.  The fishing should pick up as the water clears.  We had most of our success on the Springtime Poopah size #16.

Feels Like Spring

I fished the Lower Sacramento River yesterday for 2 hours and landed 2 nice fish.

Caddis pupa – olive ice dub #16 worked for me.

Thanks for the visit!

Winter BLISS or Total Confusion

Between Duck Hunting (a 30 year tradition) with my 2 new labs “Pesto” & “Pasta”  and Steelhead Fishing (I’m a newbie) this winter has been filled with outdoor fun.  When it rains you can rest assured I’m smiling and in a state of total confusion.  Should I grab the rod or the shotgun… oh boy!

A Limit of Mallard and Sprig at Lower Klamath with “Shasta” and “Pasta” (black lab)

A limit of ducks with “Pesto” and “Shasta”.  Pesto is on the left.  Uncle Joe & Dad on a day where the wind blew 55 mph for 3 hours.  3 boats were lost in LK Refuge that day.

Steelhead on The Trinity

A couple of my fishing buddies are having a good season on the Trinty.

Trinity Steelhead

Had a fun outing yesterday with my Dad on the Trinity.

Landed 1 wild fish on a red copper john #14.

Also had another grab on the Red Copper John and ended up with 1 fish scale.

Best part of the day was the accumulation of “thigamabobbers” that ended up in a back eddy.  I ended up with 5

new “ma bobbers”
